Ack!! What happened to my blog?? As with everything that becomes popular, WordPress is not immune to the potential breach of security that hackers can inflict, and it certainly has not escaped the attention of hackers around the globe. There is always someone out there who wants to do more harm than good… that’s how I see hackers, anyway. As a law-abiding citizen, I really don’t understand what the whole point to breaking into people’s websites and computers is (and what kind of pleasure is apparently achieved), however, I do completely understand the repurcussions of ... With many dubbing Google as the “King of the Internet”, any changes they make to the way they rank a website catches everyone’s attention, including mine! There are many ways to improve your page rank and traffic on your site, but in this post, I will concentrate on one major tip: decrease your site load time! If you’re wondering why, read on! I guess I should start by defining what a Page Rank is… I know that when I first started blogging, I had no idea what this even meant, or how important it could be! Basically, “PageRank” is one of the methods Goo ... [read more]...
One of the greatest things about WordPress is the ability to add functionality to it via plugins. There are some awesome free and premium plugins out there that will enhance your WordPress blog or website, and personally, I find it difficult to keep my number of active plugins to a minimum, but there are a few reasons to not install every single plugin you find that you like! Why would you want to keep the number of plugins you use to a minimum? One of the reasons for keeping the number of plugins you use down is because, logically speaking, the more plugins you use, the slower your WordPres ... [read more]...
I really disklike having any kind of Flash on websites and/or blogs that I own or design, and I know there are many designers and developers out there who agree with me. Using flash also makes SEO more challenging for websites and blogs, which is another reason to stay away from flash if you can. In addition to working by day as a Technical Trainer, working by night as a freelance web and blog designer, as well as dabbling in photography here and there on the side, I also compose my own music. I have a separate website for my music that is also (of course) WordPress-based, and I used to use an ... [read more]...

Have you ever been on someone’s site and noticed that a link was shorter and simpler than expected? Maybe an example will illustrate this better: http://www.sitename.com/xxxx Where “xxx” can be anything from twitter, facebook, maybe a product recommendation, etc. (so www.sitename.com/facebook, or www.sitename.com/twitter, or www.sitename.com/recommends/productx, etc.) I’ve had this question recently come up with a client, and I often wondered this myself until discovering just how other bloggers were achieving this. They use a plugin that basically redirects a custom, ... [read more]...
As with any technology that becomes popular, there are always people out there who decide to develop ways to attack, hack, exploit, and just plain break it! In my opinion, Apple will soon be facing this problem as well as Macs become more and more popular. WordPress is no different, and with WordPress popularity growing at a fast pace and being so widely used, there have been some security breaches already performed. The developers are trying their best to keep our WordPress homes as safe as possible, and an important step that you can take if you have a WordPress blog is to always ensure to u ... [read more]...
