In response, personally, I removed the bar due to the reasons you mentioned above – I found the bar to be more of a distraction (albeit it's really “cool”, but still a little bit of a distraction), and also, my site loads more slowly than I'd like it to, so until I go through a redesign with a lighter theme that loads faster, I've removed unnecessary plugins/features (such as the Wibiya bar) to help my site load faster.

If you would benefit from the features of the bar, though, I do still recommend it! The decision to remove it was really more specific to my situation, rather than the bar itself.
